Makeup Haul | Sephora

Sephora Makeup Haul 2017

Last week my boyfriend gave me a gift card to Sephora for graduating from college and I wasted no time spending it. I immediately went to the Sephora at the mall and bought a few things I have been wanting since last month. If you guys want to see what I purchased then continue reading.

Sephora Shopping Bag

Sephora Haul Products

The first product I bought from Sephora was the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow Palette because I have been wanting it for ages and I knew it would be a great palette to use for the upcoming Fall. I was initially drawn to this palette because of its warm pink shades. The palette comes with fourteen shades which include  a mixture of mattes, satins, and shimmers.

ABH Modern Renaissance Palette

Below are how the shadows swatch on my arm being a W.O.C. Although the swatches may say one thing, the shadows are very pigmented. I didn’t have to continuously pack the shades on my lid to get the color pay off I wanted but I did experience some fall out. Overall I’m really happy I bought this palette and I can’t wait to create beautiful looks with it for the Fall.

The second product  I bought from Sephora is the BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 in Chai 26. I discovered this foundation through  Influenster when they were shipping out the BareMinerals BarePro Vox Box. Although I didn’t receive the Vox Box I was still interested in trying out the foundation, so I went to Sephora and got shade matched and took home a sample size.

After wearing the foundation for several weeks I had to buy the full size because I loved how natural the foundation looked on my skin, it didn’t feel heavy, and it didn’t oxidize throughout the day. What made the foundation even better was that the price tag was below $40.00.

BareMinerals BarePro Liquid Foundation

The final product I bought from Sephora isn’t a newbie to my collection but simply a restock because I ran out and that is the Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder in the Mini Size. I love to use this powder to set my forehead, under eye, cupid’s bow, and chin concealer highlight. I also love to use this powder to define my contour. I’m glad that Laura Mercier offers this powder in the mini size because it makes it easier to throw in your bag in comparison to the full size. This powder also doesn’t give me any flashback but I think it may be too white to set my entire face.

I hope you guys enjoyed this Sephora haul and let me know in the comments what your favorite products was.

Makeup Haul |Ulta Beauty

Yes another haul. I’m sure you guys are thinking this girl can’t help her self and loves to go shopping for makeup. Well you are right. It is hard for me to walk into Ulta Beauty and not buy a single thing. lolz

This past Monday I went out shopping and I decided to stop by Ulta Beauty because I remembered they had a sale on the NYX Cosmetics products and I wanted to pick up a few things. Instead of picking of a “few things” I ended up splurging and buying some other products I have been wanting as well.

Ulta Beauty Shopping Bag

From NYX Cosmetics I bought their Micro Brow Pencil in Brunette,  HD Studio Photogenic Concealer in CW 08.6 ( i’ll be using this for  contouring), Suede Matte Lip Liner in Downtown Beauty ( Hershey Brown Shade), Slim Lip Liner in Nutmeg ( Mauve Brown), Butter Gloss in Tiramisu ( Nude Mauve), and Butter Gloss in Praline (Deep Nude Mauve).

NYX Cosmetics Products

I had to pick up some false lashes because I haven’t purchased any since May and I love how they take your makeup look to the next level. I bought two pair from the brand Ardell. I got the Natural style (looks like your lashes but even longer) and the Faux Mink style. I haven’t tried the Faux Mink lashes before, so I’m super excited to see how they will look on.

Ardell False Lashes

I also picked up the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer because I ran out and I needed to restock. I really like this primer because it gives me a smooth surface to start with before I apply my foundation.

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer

I also decided to buy two of my favorite paper masks, the Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Calming Paper Mask. Whenever I use this mask it’s like an at home spa treatment, I feel very calm and  relaxed. I also really love the cucumber scent, it’s very refreshing.

Yes To Cucumbers Paper Mask

The last thing I bought was the Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil in number 6. For those of you that read my previous post you know that I have been wanting to try this brow pencil and I finally got my hands on it. I wanted to try number 5 but they were out so I settled for number 6. I can’t wait to see how this brow pencil performs in comparison to the ABH Brow Wiz.

Benefit Precisely My Brow Pencil

These are all of the products I bought from Ulta Beauty, I hope you guys enjoyed this makeup haul and comment below your opinion on the Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil if you have tried it before.

Don’t forget to like this post and to share it with your friends and family. 🙂

Makeup Haul 2017 |Ulta & Colourpop

A few makeup products I bought last week from Ulta Beauty and Colourpop Cosmetics

Makeup Products and BrushesYou guys already know when it comes to makeup I can’t help myself sometimes and I end up buying a few things I may or may not need but I just had to have. lolz  Last week I decided to buy some makeup from Ulta Beauty and Colourpop Cosmetics. If you want to see what I picked up then keep on reading.

ULTA Beauty

Becca Sunlit Bronzer in Ipanema Sun

Becca Sunlit Bronzer

The first thing I decided to buy from Ulta was the Becca Sunlit Bronzer in Ipanema Sun. I had to buy this bronzer because a Sephora representative put it on my cheeks one day and I immediately fell in love with it. I personally have never really used bronzers before but so far I’m liking this one for my cheeks. When I use it with my contour powder it really makes my cheek bones look higher. Although this bronzer isn’t affordable, I know it will last me a long time.

E.L.F Cosmetics Contour Brush

E.L.F Cosmetics Flawless Face Brush

E.L.F Cosmetics Small Tapered Brush

E.L.F Cosmetics Flawless Concealer Brush

elf cosmetics brushes

The second thing I bought from Ulta was some of the E.L.F Cosmetics brushes because I have been wanting some new brushes for a while, I have heard so many great things about them on YouTube, and they are very affordable. The brushes I bought are the contour brush, flawless face brush, small tapered brush, and the flawless concealer brush.

I really like using the contour brush for precise contour application, but not necessarily to blend it out. I use the flawless face brush to apply my bronzer and the small tapered brush to apply my highlighter and under the eye setting powder.  One thing I noticed is that the flawless face brush started to shed a little when I first opened up the brush.

I have really enjoyed using the flawless concealer brush to blend out my concealer under my eyes, on my chin, on the bridge of my nose, on my cupids bow, and on my forehead. I like using this brush more than my Real Techniques Sponge because I get more coverage and a flawless blend. I did notice that the flawless concealer brush head was wobbly when I first opened the brush but I may have gotten a faulty brush.

Colourpop Cosmetics

Colourpop No Filter Concealer Tan 50

Colourpop No Filter Concealer Deep Golden 60

colourpop concealers

Colourpop Concealers Swatches

The first thing I ordered from Colourpop was their new No Filter Concealer in the shades Tan 50 and Deep Golden 60. If you read my previous post, you will remember that this concealer has been on my wishlist for this month. Once I found out that Colourpop would be restocking this concealer I had to pick it up immediately  because I didn’t wanna miss out again.

I bought Tan 50 to use as a highlighting concealer under my eyes, on my chin, forehead, bridge of my nose, and cupids bow. I bought Deep Golden 60 to be a spot concealer that is closer to my skin tone.  So far I have only used Tan 50 for highlighting and I must say that I’m in love. No I won’t be retiring my NARS Radiant Creamy concealer but I will be repurchasing this concealer when I run out.

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip Mess Around

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip Toolips

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip Tansy

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lips Swatches

The second thing I ordered from Colourpop is three of the Ultra Satin Lips in the shades Mess Around, Toolips, and Tansy. I decided to pick these up because I wanted to try out the Satin Lip formula and I’m always looking to add new lippies to my makeup collection especially since Fall is approaching. I have only worn Mess Around so far and I must say that I really like this formula. It isn’t drying on the lips and it isn’t hard to take off. It is super comfortable to wear and very pigmented.

These are all the things that I bought and so far I can honestly say I like everything and I’m excited to test them out further. I hope you guys enjoyed this haul and maybe learned about some new products you may want to pick up as well.

My Eyebrow Routine for Sparse Brows

Learn how I get perfect eyebrows by using the Anastasia Brow Wiz and the NYX Brow Gel on my sparse eyebrows

Eyebrow Products and ToolsFor those of you that know me, it will be no surprise to you when I say I love doing my eyebrows. I love to keep them “on fleek” and looking full and gorgeous (fun fact: my bf tells me all the time that my eyebrows are on fleek lolz). I don’t know what it is about doing my brows but I always feel extra glam when I have them done. The funny thing is about four or five years ago, I would never let anyone touch my eyebrows and my so-called routine consisted of me putting Vaseline on my brows to keep them in place. It wasn’t until I went to college that I finally decided to attempt (key word lolz) to fill in my brows. After a few years of watching YouTube tutorials and practicing I have come up with a brow routine that I love. If you would like to learn more about  how I do my brows then keep reading.

To prep your brows, I would suggest getting them threaded, tweezed, or waxed to help define your natural brow shape. This will make it easier to fill them in because you won’t have to worry about camouflaging extra unwanted hairs. I have naturally thin brows and I have never gotten them professionally shaped but I plan to get them threaded in the future just to clean them up.

The first thing I do before filling my brows in, is take a spooly brush (I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brush #12 ) and brush my brows in an upward motion to get the hairs to lay in the direction I want them to go. This helps me see the natural shape of my brow and determine what areas need to be filled in.

To fill in my brows, I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in the shade Chocolate because I prefer to have dark brown brows because black looks too harsh on me. I also like using a brow pencil over a pomade or powder because it is easier for me to outline my brows and to create hair like strokes when filling them in.

After I have brushed my brows and the hairs are laying in the correct direction,  I begin to create the shape I want by drawing a line above my brow starting at the middle to the arch and extending all the way to the tail.

Then I begin to fill in the sparse parts of my brows by drawing hair like strokes in the same direction that my actual brow hairs are laying. I start at the middle and continue until I get to the tail. Since I have extra stray hairs underneath my brows, I fill those hairs in as well to make my brows appear thicker and to hide those hairs. If you want a more natural look, don’t put a lot of pressure onto the pencil when filling your brows in.

To create a gradient affect with my brows, I lightly fill in the front part of my brows by also creating hair like strokes in the direction the hairs are laying. I personally like my brows to extend closer together, so I draw extra strokes past the point where my natural brow begins.

Then I take the spooly once more and brush through my brow from the beginning to the tail  to ensure I have a smooth brow and I don’t have any holes in my brows.

To clean up my brows I take a small flat brush (similar to the NARS Cream Blending Brush #12) and place concealer (I use the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Caramel) above and underneath my brows and then I blend it out. If you want a more natural looking brow you can skip this step or you can use a concealer that is the same shade as your skin tone.

Lastly, I take some clear brow gel (I use the NYX Control Freak Eyebrow Gel) and brush through my brow hairs to keep everything in place and lasting throughout the day.

Before and After Filling in Eyebrows

This is how I fill in my brows and keep them on fleek. I hope you learned something that may help you and enjoyed reading this post.

My September Makeup Wishlist

A few makeup products that I have had my eyes on recently due to the hype or that I have wanted for a while but just haven’t picked up yet and plan to do so sometime this month.

  1. bareMinerals BarePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation Broad Spectrum SPF 20 : I first discovered this foundation through Influenster and the bareMineral’s Instagram page. Although I have bought a bareMinerals lipgloss, I’m still very new to their products. I decided to go to Sephora and get shade matched to this foundation and I received two samples as well. After wearing the foundation for a few days I immediately feel in love because it wasn’t heavy, it didn’t look cakey, and it is under $40.00. I plan to buy this foundation once I lighten up in the Fall.
  2. Colourpop No Filter Concealer : The new Colourpop No Filter Concealer has been all over social media and YouTube (no surprise here)  because it is Colourpop’s first time launching a concealer and it is only $6.00. I would love to get my hands on it before it goes out of stock again, I personally want to try a shade for highlighting and a shade for concealing.  My go to concealer now is the Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer but I’m open to trying something new and that can possibly become an inexpensive alternative.
  3. Benefit Cosmetics Precisely, My Brow Pencil Ultra Fine Shape and DefineAlthough this brow pencil isn’t new to the makeup world, as usual i’m still behind on testing it out for myself. I love to do my brows with a pencil and I’m currently enjoying the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz but I recently ran out and I need to restock. A lot of beauty gurus on YouTube talk about how great Benefit’s brow products are and I figured it would be worth a try. I will say that I’m surprised this pencil cost more than the Brow Wiz but I still plan to pick it up in the near future.
  4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Eyeshadow PaletteWith the new release of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Subculture Eyeshadow Palette, you are probably wondering why I want the Modern Renaissance instead. When it comes to eye shadows i’m personally drawn to warm shades, pinks, purples, and rose golds over the unorthodox shades. I have also been wanting this palette for a while now but I decided to pick up the Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette first. I also think the shades in the Modern Renaissance will be perfect for this coming Fall and will make beautiful looks for Thanksgiving.
  5. NARS Velvet Lip GlideLast but certainly not least on my wish list is the NARS Velvet Lip Glide. I discovered this lipgloss when I was at Sephora and I decided to try on the shade Area (rich chestnut) and I loved the way it looked on my skin tone so I had to write the name down so I could pick it up in the future. I don’t have a lot of experience with NARS’s products beside their concealer but there are several products from their brand that I would love to give a try as well. I also think this shade in particular would be great for the Fall as an alternative to a matte brown lip.  The only downside about this product is the price, but that is to be expected with NARS products.

Juvia’s Place the Saharan Eyeshadow Palette Swatches and Review

Review and swatches of the Saharan Palette by Juvia’s Place

The first time I ever heard of the brand Juvia’s Place was through watching YouTube videos about their eyeshadow palettes and how they were very pigmented, beautiful, and affordable. I also learned that Juvia’s Place was a Black Owned Beauty Brand so… I couldn’t help but give their products a chance. For those of you who read my previous post, on my birthday I decided to treat myself to some new makeup products and the Saharan Palette ended up in my cart.

I was drawn to this palette in particular because I didn’t have any bright colors in my collection and I wanted to step out of my comfort zone for the summer time and try some bright, bold, and beautiful eyeshadow looks.

What is Juvia’s Place?

According to the Juvia’s Place website,  Juvia’s is a cosmetic brand that provides you with the most rich, vibrant and highly pigmented essential colors of life that takes you from the office to the Caribbean Islands and everywhere in between! Juvia’s was created as a way to provide beauty enthusiasts an affordable collection of colorful eye shadows, makeup tools and beauty essentials.

If you want to learn more about Juvia’s Place and their products you can click here.

The Saharan Palette Overview

  • $25.00
  • 18g/0.63 oz
  • 12 shades : Matte, Shimmer, and Satin
  • Cruelty Free
  • Vegan
  • Created and Formulated in the USA

Since Juvia’s Place products aren’t sold in stores (that I know of) I ordered the palette on their website. Although the palette took about a week plus to arrive at my home, it came packaged with bubble wrap and packing peanuts and nothing was shattered so I couldn’t complain. The Saharan Palette seems to be pretty small to be priced at $25.00 in my opinion.

The packaging is very pretty and being a graphic designer I was very impressed with the artwork. I will say that the packaging doesn’t have a luxury feel but then again it was only $25.00. It also doesn’t come with a mirror but that doesn’t bother me.

The Saharan Palette has twelve shades: a mixture of mattes, shimmers, and satins. According to Juvia’s Place, the shades featured in the palette are inspired by the vibrancy and vivaciousness of the Wodabbe Festivities in the Fulani culture of West Africa.

After using the eyeshadow palette, I can agree that the shades are very pigmented and vibrant. When applying the shadows I didn’t have to continuously pack them onto my lid in order to get the color pay off  I wanted. I did use an eyeshadow base before applying my shadows to prevent them from creasing throughout the day.

Since the shades are so bright and bold I personally would use this palette in conjunction with another palette that has more neutral colors to create a full look, unless you are going for a really bright look. There is only one neutral shade, Katsina which is a very light brown that can be used as a transition shade. Bororo, Kia, Senegal, Fula,Lulu, Zoya, and Wodaabe can be used as lid shades. Sokoto, Jamila, and Chad can be used as crease or outer V shades. Iman can be used as a lid shade and inner corner shade as well. There isn’t a browbone highlight shade that I would use in this palette.

The consistency of the shadows are on the smooth side, I don’t consider them to be chalky or dry. The only shade that was dry was Jamila and Chad isn’t as pigmented as the other shades. I also did experience some fallout.

I don’t see myself grabbing for this palette in the morning before I go to the office but I can see myself reaching for it before I go out on a Friday night.

So… is this palette worth it? I say yes if your collection is lacking vibrant colors and you want something that is very pigmented and affordable. The shades are very beautiful and you can create some very bright and bold looks with this palette without breaking the bank. Just keep in mind that there aren’t a lot of neutral shades and you may have to grab another palette to finish your eyeshadow look.

Birthday Makeup Haul 2017

A few things I decided to pick up in honor of my birthday

Happy Birthday to me! Well by the time you will be reading this,my birthday will have already passed but better late than never right. For those of you who don’t know or haven’t read my About Me page, my birthday was on July 18th. I can finally say that i’m twenty-two years old, the funny thing is I had a habit of telling people I was twenty two before my birthday came. lolz I guess I couldn’t wait.

I must say that I really had a great birthday celebration and I felt very loved and blessed. My boyfriend gave me the best gift you could ever buy a makeup lover. Yes you guessed it, a Sephora gift card! My parents also gave me some money so . . . you already know what I decided to do,(hint: the title of this blog) I decided to treat myself and I picked up a few items I have been wanting for a long time.

ULTA Beauty

Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette

The Too Faced Sweet Peach Eyeshadow Palette has been on my never ending makeup wish list ever since it re-released back in December 2016. I was drawn to this beautiful palette because of its irresistible eighteen shades of peaches, browns, and purples. I didn’t own anything close to this palette and I wanted something bright for the summer so I had to add it to my cart. Although i’m no expert at doing eyeshadow looks,  I can’t wait to use this palette and create beautiful sweet peach looks that will compliment my melanin. (Look out for a future blog post on this eyeshadow palette)

Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit- Ultimate Glow

I’ve always wanted to try an Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit because I’ve heard so many great things about them on YouTube and I’ve seen a lot of beautiful photographs of swatches on Instagram. I had to follow the hype and pick one up for myself and I ended up choosing the Ultimate Glow Kit because I’m personally drawn to gold and champagne highlight shades over the unorthodox shades. Gold highlighters tend to look beautiful on WOC and don’t appear ashy so I knew this would be a good buy.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Translucent Medium Deep

The Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Medium Deep was on the top of my wish list because I already knew how great it was. I already owned a travel size of the powder in Translucent and I was amazed at how it transformed the longevity of my makeup, so being a WOC I was naturally excited about the new Medium Deep shade. (This powder is made for us melanin beauties) Now that I own both powders, I use the Translucent to set the highlighted areas of my face and the Medium Deep to set my entire face.

bareMinerals GEN NUDE Buttercream Lipgloss in Minx

I’m new when it comes to bareMinerals makeup products and the GEN NUDE Buttercream Lip gloss is the first product I’ve ever bought from the brand. I found out about this lip gloss on my birthday when I took a quick trip to Sephora. I’ve always been looking for the perfect nude lip that would compliment my skin tone and not make my lips look like I ate a powder donut. I won’t say that this lip gloss is the perfect nude lip for myself because it is more of a deep purple brown shade but it still does look beautiful on.

Ultra Matte Lip in Teeny Tiny

Ultra Matte Lip in Limbo

I know i’m very late but I finally decided to try the Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipsticks out for myself plus they are only six dollars. I originally wanted the color Chilli Chilli but it was limited edition so I end up choosing Teeny Tiny instead. One thing I’ve noticed about the lipsticks, they show up darker on my lips than they appear in the tube. I would describe Teeny Tiny as a deep mauve with a hint of coral. It’s not my favorite shade to wear by itself but I do plan to try it with a lip liner. I also picked up the shade Limbo because I’ve seen a lot of YouTubers that are WOC use this shade. I would describe Limbo as a chocolate brown shade. It’s very beautiful on its own and with a lip liner.

 Juvia’s Place

Made with Square InstaPic

Masquerade Mini Palette

Saharan Palette

I first heard about Juvia’s Place from YouTube and from my friend Aubree through their ever so popular eyeshadow palettes. I also seen several beautiful photographs of swatches and eyeshadow looks on Instagram. I ordered the Masquerade Mini  and the Saharan Palette because I didn’t own anything close to these shades and I wanted to step out of comfort zone and try some bright colors for the summer. I really like the purple shades in Masquerade Mini Palette and the pink shimmer shades in the Saharan Palette.  I also like that Juvia’s Place is a Black Owned Company and I’ve been wanting to support Black Owned Beauty Brands. (Look out for a future blog post on these eyeshadow palettes)

Sephora & ULTA Birthday Gift

NYX Happy Birthday Palette

Tarte Lip and Cheek Set

Since I’m a Sephora Beauty Insider and an ULTA member I  received a complimentary birthday gift from both places.  ULTA sent me a coupon in my email telling me that I received the NYX Happy Birthday Eyeshadow Palette. I wasn’t required to purchase anything to get the palette, I just had to redeem the printed coupon in stores. Sephora also sent me an email saying that I had received a birthday gift, they had three options to choose from. In order to redeem the gift I had to purchase something in stores or online and then I could choose my gift at check out. I decided  to get the Tarte Lip and Cheek Set.

These are all the things I purchased for my birthday and I can’t wait to try everything out and create beautiful looks with all of the products.
